This technique is meant for clients with darker pigmentation on their lips (usually Fitzpatrick IV – VI clients) who wish to camouflage the blue/purple tones in their lips.

This technique is more advanced & will require more sessions to complete (3 or 4) unlike the regular Lip Blush or Lipstick Look Tattoo which is done in 2 sessions.

The process cannot be done in a single go as it causes trauma to the lips skin. We must limit the number of passes or pigment layers not to overwork and permanently damage the skin. Overdoing the procedure without giving the skin time to heal may end up causing even more hyperpigmentation and injury to the lips.
In the first sitting of dark lip correction, the main goal is to neutralize the cool tones in the lips, especially for ethnic skin tones. This session will help to reduce the darkness of lips by using warm-based pigments.

After the first session of the neutralization process, the healing period can extend anywhere between 8 to 12 weeks, sometimes even more (depending on the individual).

Depending upon the final color achieved after the first procedure and its healing process, the second session could either be the second cycle of naturalization or the use of targeted pigment color.

If an even tone is achieved after one round of neutralization, the targeted pigment color can be used. However, in general, canceling the darkness or neutralizing the skin color takes about 2-3 sessions.

Targeted pigment colors will include warmer and brighter shades. In the coloring phase of the treatment, the use of pinks and reds is common. When dealing with darker skin tones, we must avoid any pigments of blue, violet undertones.
It is important to note that this procedure cannot guarantee a definite lip color. The only promise is that the overall color will be lighter and brighter, but one cannot determine the actual shade beforehand. The results ultimately depend upon the healing process and how the body reacts to the pigments introduced by microinjections.
The Dark Lip Color Correction Treatment also enhances the natural shape and provides slight upliftment to the lips and a more symmetrical look.

Healing Process

This is what you might expect during the healing phase:

RIGHT AFTER:

Lips will be swollen, feel sore and color will appear brighter and bolder. Redness around the lips can be present.

DAY 1

What you see is about 50% darker, bolder and more solid than what your healed result will present. Swelling should subside by now.

DAY 2

Lip will feel dry & might start cracking slightly on the surface.

DAY 3

Your lips may begin to peel and the pigment may appear somewhat raised. You will see a loss of color where the scabs come off.

DAY 4-6

The skin is now in the throes of rapid exfoliation and if left alone, will shed evenly. The color under the exfoliating skin might appear darken than before & look patchy until the epidermis takes on its more transparent characteristics. It is normal for melanin rich lips to get darker during the healing process! Don’t panic! You may wear lipstick to cover your lips during the healing period.

DAY 30-60

Now is the time to critique your lips as you have had a full cycle of cellular regeneration in which the tattoo has now become part of the dermis, seen under the epidermis. Usually, melanin rich lips take a minimum of 8 weeks to fully heal and for the color to even out & get lighter. Please be patient and trust the healing process!

* Every individual is different and this approximate timeline is just that, an approximate and can vary from person to person.

When you leave the appointment, your lips will be intact and we will do our best to help you heal properly. Your lifestyle choices, age, genetics, and skin type will contribute to the retention of your pigment. If you use sun-beds, sunbathe, don’t use sun protection, smoke, use anti-aging creams or acidic cleansers, your lips WILL fade faster and you’ll need to come earlier for your refresh touch ups.

Cosmetic tattoo is an art, not a science. Your results will vary and using lip makeup may still be needed, especially when wearing heavy coverage makeup. This is not necessarily a no maintenance treatment, but a low maintenance treatment. No two sides of the face are the same or perfectly symmetrical and whilst trying to obtain perfect symmetry is my goal, nothing is guaranteed or 100% perfect.

Lip trauma may cause a cold sore out-brake and it can look pretty bad.

Yes, as long as you prepare yourself by taking a prescription antiviral cold sore medication prescribed by your doctor. You will need to take it prior to your appointment and continue to take it until you are done healing. Without taking this precaution, the procedure may cause a flare up, even if the last time you had cold sores when you were a kid. They are caused by the herpes simplex virus. This virus is very common, an estimated 3.7 billion people under age 50 (67%) have HSV-1 infection globally so it is always advices to take antiviral medications before any lip tattoo procedures.

“Lip Blush” tattoo also knows as “Watercolor/Aquarelle Lips” lips technique will enhance the natural beauty of the lips by slightly improving the lip size, definition, color and by correcting the shape. There are many colors to choose from ranging from natural tints to vibrant colors. Lip blush tattoo brings back your natural lip contour. Just add a little clear lip balm and your lips will look subtle & natural, just like your own lips but better. It will not look like you are wearing a lipstick, lip stain at most. There is no separate outline. Since there is a lot less pigment implanted in the skin, annual touch-ups are recommended to keep the color from fading.

“Lipstick effect” will give you more saturated color, more defined shape and will look like you are wearing a lipstick all the time. Color can be light and natural (which will give you more options if you like to wear a different lipstick color over the tattoo sometimes) or bold and bright (pinks, reds, etc). Since the pigment is more saturated this technique will last longer than a lip blush tattoo. Annual touch-ups could be done every 2 years or even longer for some clients.

Lips is the most sensitive area on the face to perform a cosmetic tattoo, so some level of discomfort is completely normal even when anesthetic gel/cream is used before and during the treatment. If you are extremely sensitive and don’t numb easily this procedure might not be for you. Lips usually swell right after the treatment, but the swelling goes away completely by the next day.

Touch up is a follow up procedure which takes place a minimum six weeks after your initial visit, after your skin is fully healed. How much work you will need on a touch up will depend on several factors such as:
